You have a child or are about to become a parent and your first concern is how to carry all your baby's essentials everywhere? This is where the grail of the changing bag comes into play. It is the one that will allow you to take your baby's blanket, nappies, bottles and other wonders everywhere.
Clearly, this is the essential accessory that you WILL have to choose (no pressure!).
There are millions of them (almost): original changing bags, backpack changing bags, practical changing bags, luxury changing bags, changing handbags, shoulder bags... Too many to choose from quickly.
Let's try to think about what you really need :)
Which changing bag should I choose?
The best bag is the one that suits you and your needs. So far, we're not telling you anything. So you'll have to look at a few features!
1. Practicality
Being a parent changes our lives in 1001 ways and it is undeniable that we have to adapt and organise ourselves. That's why it's important to look at how practical the changing bag is for storing things and finding them quickly.
A nappy bag with many dedicated storage compartments inside or outside, not too deep, so that you can have everything within reach without losing your arm, is still more comfortable, isn't it?
2. The features
More and more changing bags offer practical features for your daily life as a parent. A bottle bag, an insulated pocket, a pocket or waterproof bag for dirty nappies, attachments to pushchairs or an integrated changing mat for changing baby... Some bags even have unique features such as the fact that it can be used as an extra carrying tool in a hip seat and the fact that it can be attached to a baby carrier like the CaravanBag! :)
3. How to carry it
Whether it's slung over the shoulder, worn as a fanny pack, handbag or backpack, some formats may be more practical depending on your habits.
Dads will prefer a practical format such as a fanny pack, shoulder bag or backpack. A backpack is convenient for hands-free convenience but can be cumbersome to get things out quickly.
Some changing bags offer several carrying sizes and can therefore be adapted to many situations!
The CaravanBag for example allows you to wear it on your hip, on your shoulder, on your back, by your hip, by your belt... In short it will go anywhere you put it!
4. Size
Large changing bag, compact changing bag, mid-size bag... It's not easy to find a compromise between large capacity and practicality. Because yes, in a large bag you can move all your baby's things every time you go out but it can be cumbersome (and boring and useless).
Smaller sizes are practical but can they hold all the essentials you need to put in a changing bag? Not sure.
The best compromise for us? A mid-size bag that can hold the essentials and still be not too bulky for us parents. (If it's well made!)
5. Durability
A criterion we don't necessarily think about: the durability of the product. Is buying a changing bag that will be thrown away after a few months really a good choice?
For us, no. Choosing a changing bag that can be used for us and not just for baby is our smart way of buying better. Is that the case for you too? :)
6. Aesthetics / Design
A subjective criterion, but one that is at least a little important (sometimes it's really important, isn't it?).
Displaying your parenthood is not always what you want, a sober, all-purpose design can be the solution. It's up to you to decide what you like best and if both Mum and Dad want to use the same bag.
We have prepared a small table summarising the different bag models.
