The benefits of skin-to-skin
Also called the "kangaroo" method by the WHO, skin-to-skin is recommended in addition to fight against hypothermia, to promote breastfeeding and early interactions of the mother with her baby. But that's not all!
- Body temperature regulation: indeed, the exchange of heat between baby's body and parents promotes good temperature regulation, even in case of fever!"
- Facilitating breastfeeding: baby, on his mother's belly in skin-to-skin contact = baby who automatically moves towards the breast. The contact also promotes the production of oxytocin and therefore the production of milk :)
- Bonding: with Dad or Mom, the contact encourages the production of the love hormone, oxytocin
- Reassured baby: against you, view on you, he feels safe
