You know you're a parent when your baby carrier becomes the only way to get your baby to sleep!
Before we begin, who is Papa Chouch?
He is a dad blogger who loves sharing quotes for all parents with a sense of humour and who shares the best of the parenting web. He tells us about his experience with babywearing!
I carried him out of necessity, then out of pleasure!
Jules was 4 months old when he started his days at the childminder's. I was sad to leave him in the morning but also so happy to be able to go and have a coffee — it had been so long that I no longer remembered what it tasted like. For 3 years, I took him and picked him up every day. It was during this time that I realised I would have to carry the stroller up all the stairs in the subway… and that this was completely out of the question. I therefore had to find a solution. The baby carrier appeared to be the most logical and simplest option. Simple… That is what I imagined before looking into the models and all the possibilities available to me: baby carrier wrap, physio or preformed baby carrier, front or back carry. More than 2000 possibilities not counting the many colours. After reflection and taking various opinions into account (which are sometimes as sharp as your child's new teeth nibbling at your fingers), I opted for the PhysioCarrier.
The baby carrier wraps were quite tempting but since I struggle to tie my shoelaces I told myself it wasn't a serious option. The baby carrier was therefore a good option for me as a beginner! I started carrying him every day during the 40-minute daily walk. This allowed us to build a lovely father-son relationship. I would talk to him on every outing, telling him about my day, asking him if his had gone well. I took a «Bou» as a positive answer even though I had no idea really. Then I carried him much more and not only to the childminder's. Of course, I started carrying him less when he began to walk, which happened at 13 months. I continued on the daily commutes but as parents, we are so proud to see them walking!
In a word, I loved that period when we would chat, when I would jump to make him laugh, when I would show him the leaves on the trees. What I loved most was when we would go for walks, my wife and I with the baby carrier, when people looked at us tenderly… Especially when they see a man carrying his baby… well, there, it was surely because with my build they thought they were seeing a kangaroo. Best wishes to all. Papa Chouch
