You won't necessarily need to put your child in the wrap from birth. The time of first meeting is just as magical when you hold your child in your arms and observe the way they naturally position themselves against you. It is however possible to carry your Baby from the very first days, to ease the transition between the womb and life outside. At the maternity ward, for example, if you are torn between your need for rest and the need for closeness that your newborn is expressing, you can settle them in a Side Seated position against you, while sitting up in your bed.

Skin-to-skin contact and closeness can also help you encourage your milk to come in. Babywearing must also respect the carrier's fatigue. A Mum who has just given birth will not necessarily carry as much as a Dad who has kept all his energy to welcome his child. Leaving the maternity ward can be done in a wrap, against Mum or Dad (if you are on foot). Carrying a newborn must be done with maximum respect for their physiology and by following the safety guidelines relating to the positions that will suit them best. You will find all these rules here.
