The first time... in a wrap!
You had imagined it so much, dreamed of it so much, waited for it so much... And here they are, this little baby! For several months you have no doubt been preparing, organising, and picturing daily life and their arrival in your family. Resolutions may have been made in line with your convictions. But this little one is showing you that being a parent is not as simple as it seems and that it is better to work as a team to understand each other and get used to one another.
A baby wrap?
Among the many purchases or birth gifts for your little one, there hides a strange piece of fabric... Whether it is wide, long and with a pocket like the wrap l'Originale JPMBB, or with rings like the Petite Echarpe Sans Noeud, this babywearing option intrigues you greatly. Perhaps you bought it yourself, already convinced of its benefits? In short, it is high time to take an interest in it!
Is it complicated?
To be honest, it can seem complicated at first but it ends up becoming a true reflex. Because to use it properly, you need to have a few basics. Rest assured, it remains very simple and within everyone's reach! The most anxious can even get help from a babywearing instructor at a workshop. (Discover HERE the map with the various workshops spread across departments throughout France and other countries).
For others, the instructions and videos on the YouTube channel Love Radius will guide you through the discovery with your Baby. (You can even send your babywearing photos to the Love Radius Facebook page to get the best advice).
After a few minutes and sometimes two or three attempts, you've got it! The baby wrap holds no more secrets for you.
To try it is to love it!
For a first use, it is recommended to choose a day when you are feeling well and your Baby is in fairly good shape and calm. Once you have understood the technique well, it is time to explain to Baby what you are going to do. Babywearing is a team effort. All Babies will appreciate a few words of explanation before being settled into the wrap. Take your time — the first time, there is no rush. The best approach is to gently rock Baby while getting them settled. Talk to them, reassure them if they seem worried, as they can sense your hesitation and may worry too... In short, don't make it a big deal... it will go well! :-) If your Baby does not seem cooperative the first time, don't give up — try again later in the day. They have every right not to be in the mood at that moment. If after several unsuccessful attempts you still cannot get Baby settled (they are wriggling, crying), talk to an instructor — they will be able to guide you. Sometimes a baby's discomfort may be behind their refusal, and it may be wise to be referred to a specialist for relief (an osteopath or paediatrician, for example). A few minutes later, and there is your little one settled against you! Take a deep breath and savour the moment! Can you feel that confidence in yourself? That comfort and pride? You are carrying your tiny one against you and you are simply at ease, close together. And yet life goes on — you can jump back on the moving train and continue your daily routine.
What does it actually bring?
Carrying your Baby is, in a way, continuing what was started during pregnancy. It is introducing this little being into life with all the gentleness and support of their parents. The baby carrier also gives you a small but significant bonus: having two free hands while looking after them. And it boosts our confidence as parents, because when you've just had a child, you need confidence to peacefully experience parenthood!
Carrying your baby for the first time is very impressive. It can also be nerve-wracking — you're afraid of doing it wrong or not managing. But once you have mastered babywearing, it becomes a true asset in daily life and a source of joy!
Happy babywearing to all!
